Use a superlative with the Present Perfect to identify the experience that stands out most, then prove why it matters.

1. Learn the language first

Use a superlative to select one standout experience from everything you have done up to now.

Language + thinking

Present Perfect + superlative

Pattern: the + superlative + noun + I have ever + past participle.

What is the most challenging project you’ve ever worked on?
The most challenging project I’ve ever worked on was a research assignment.
PAST EXPERIENCES ------------------- NOW x x x X ↑ the one that stands out most

Ever means “at any time in your experience up to now”.

Build the superlative correctly

Use the before a superlative. Short adjectives often take -est; longer adjectives usually use most.

Useful question: What is the most useful feedback you’ve ever received?

Then move to the Simple Past

The Present Perfect + superlative selects the experience. Once you name a specific finished event, use the Simple Past for its details.

Select: The most challenging project I’ve ever worked on was a campus survey.
Details: We had one week. I organised the data. We submitted on time.
✗ The most challenging project I’ve ever worked on has happened last semester.
✓ The most challenging project I’ve ever worked on was last semester.

Read + listen: a standout experience

Manager: What is the most challenging project you’ve ever worked on?
Learner: The most challenging project I’ve ever worked on was a campus research assignment last semester.

Our team had one week to collect and analyse responses. I was responsible for organising the data, and I took initiative when two team members were delayed.

I simplified the tracking sheet, redistributed part of the work and checked progress twice a day. We submitted on time and completed all the required responses.

That was when I realised that clear ownership and early progress checks reduce last-minute risk. If I faced a similar project again, I would set the tracking system up on day one.
